Upgrade populate.in:
- systematically make paths absolute,
- somewhat beautify the help ;essage,
- explain why ../ is to be seatrched for.

     1 The files rh62*.patch are from the Red Hat 6.2 file

     2 binutils-2.13.90.0.2-2.src.rpm

     4 I am trusting here that Red Hat's patches are appropriate for all CPU

     5 types.  If I'm wrong, just remove the offending patch...
